The Rememberers is the story of a man who is uncomfortable with the complacency of his life as he moves through middle age. Ray finds himself reminiscing as the city he loves hurtles into the new century. His complacency is destroyed when he meets a beautiful woman who claims to know him intimately, while he has no memory of her. Walking her home after their initial meeting he finds himself in a neighborhood that cannot exist in his experience of the city.
While in that neighborhood he meets a silent barista whose presence will unravel his life and cause him to question the reliability of memory. She is a Rememberer and she tells him he is a Mover, able to help others move between places that may or may not be part of the reality he thinks he knows so well.
As he begins to contemplate this new state of things, a series of events, seemingly choreographed by a distant benefactor and moved forward by a trio of powerful, sensual women, begin to unfold. He finds himself in possession of an ancient house bordering an abandoned railway in the mysterious neighborhood. Exploring, he finds an entrance to an entirely new place. He is tempted to enter that passage but must first understand the nature of a true risk, one that may mean the loss of everything familiar.

The Rememberers is work of literary fiction that utilizes alternate realities in a realistic way to explore memory, loss, risk and, ultimately, transformation.

Much of the book is written in first person, like a journal. At times I got a little tired of this approach, however I enjoyed the story enough to soon pay it no attention. There is a romantic sub narrative involving some sex, confidence, mystery. I found myself falling for the ladies the narrator met. I was often hoping he would encounter them again and again so that I could get to know them a little more. What I didn’t know was probably a lot of their appeal. In the story there is a bridge over the river that runs through town. By crossing over the bridge the hero ventures into what appear to be a different dimension even though both sides are linked by his one reality. The reality on the other side of the bridge is subtly different yet in many ways quite similar. There is a sense of heightened awareness. On the “other” side there are hints to what is transpiring found in a bizarre coffee house that keeps rather unpredictable hours to be open, a train that appears on abandoned tracks, a vacant house whose absent owner has a mysterious connection with the protagonist. The suspense continually builds, Interesting characters and situations emerge. Although it appears anyone from either side of the river can cross over the bridge not many do. Anyone familiar with Rochester, NY will find several landmarks the author used to build his story on.
The conclusion seemed a little abrupt, it caught me by surprise. At first I thought everything happened too fast, but the more I thought about the outcome I came to accept what happened.

The Rememberers edition by Martin Edic Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews

This smartly written, thought-provoking novel is a must read for any fan of contemporary fiction. A unique blend of all my favorite literary genres (mystery, magical realism, suspense and hard-boiled fiction), it's no wonder I loved it. Very highly recommended.
This is a very interesting and beautifully written book with a haunting quality. The author presents many profound insights to savor and revisit as realities emerge and blur. It raises thought-provoking questions about alternate realities, memories real and perceived, and exploration of the unknown.
Not what I was looking for.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. Mystery, adventure, a look at urban loneliness, and the prospect of an alternate universe made this novel both thoughtful and entertaining.
The story was interesting but ruined by Ray who had to have sex with every female he came in contact with. The story of a man being able to travel between different deminsions of lives was great but the story kept being slowed down because he had to lay all the ladies. It would have been a better story if he could have kept it to even just one lady.
